정 후보는 이날 국회 민주당 당대표실에서 25명의 서울시 구청장장 후보들과 함께 합동 기자회견을 열고 “(투표로) 국민의 삶을 지키고 대한민국이 다시 도약할 수 있도록 서울이 함께 뒷받침하게 해달라”며 이같이 말했다.

‘견제와 균형’이 필요하다는 오 후보에 발언에 대해서는 “매번 선거 마지막에 야당이 그런 식으로 해왔는데, 이제 두번 다시 속는 일은 없을 것”이라고 했다. 정 후보는 “매번 잘못해놓고 선거 때만 되면 무릎꿇고 사과하고 지지 호소하는 행태 반복되는 것 시민들도 꿰뚫어보고 있다”며 “이번 선거에서는 오 후보의 무능, 무책임, 무사안일에 대한 심판이 기다리고 있을 것”이라고 강조했다.

구청장 출신인 정 후보는 구와 시의 관계도 재설정하는 방침도 분명히 했다. 그는 “현재 구와 시의 관계는 민선 시작 이래 전혀 개선되고 있지 않다”며 “각 구청의 역량이 뛰어남에도 역할과 권한은 제한적”이라고 했다. 그러면서 “이제 각 구가 서울의 하나가 아니라 도시로 존재하는 서울시를 기대해도 좋다”고 덧붙였다.
